Brian Long

Brian is a teacher at The Haverford School and has over a decade of academic coaching experience helping students with executive functioning, History, and English. Brian completed his undergraduate degree from Villanova University and his graduate degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.

Emily Harnett
Academic Coach, Humanities, College Essay Writing, and Executive Functioning
Emily is currently a teacher at The Haverford School. She received her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania and her graduate degree in English from Yale University. She is a writer covering books and culture for a number of publications, including The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Lapham’s Quarterly.

Tyler Beakes

Test Prep: Math (ACT, SAT, SHSAT, GRE)
Tyler has experience teaching Math in New York City, and during the last five years, Tyler has spent time teaching math to students from all over the world. Tyler earned his master’s degree in Mathematics Education from St. John’s University.

Ali Castleman
Academic Coach, Humanities, College Essay Writing, and Executive Functioning
Ali is a writer, editor, and educator from New York City. She received her BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania, where she currently teaches a class on editing, and her MFA in fiction from Rutgers University-Newark. Previously she was an editor at Amazon Publishing where she acquired and edited short fiction and nonfiction.

Mary Ocampo
Academic Coach, Humanities, College Essay Writing, and Executive Functioning
Mary is currently an English teacher and MS Writing Center Director at The Baldwin School. She received her undergraduate degree in English from Columbia University and her graduate degree in Teaching English from Fordham University. She began her teaching career in the Bronx through the Teach for America program and has also taught at the Trinity School in New York City. She has worked as a writing tutor, executive functioning support tutor, and academic coach in both New York and the Bryn Mawr area.

Maddie Beakes
Academic Coach and Executive Functioning
Maddie received her Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy from New York University and currently works at an outpatient pediatric clinic. She has experience tutoring students with a variety of needs and abilities while in graduate school. She has a strong foundation in cognition and executive functioning. Through her scope of practice as an occupational therapist she provides evidence-based strategies to help students master new skills and build self confidence within their abilities.

Dr. Callie Ward
Academic Coach, Humanities, Spanish, Executive Functioning, College Essay Writing
Callie is currently teaching at The Haverford School. She received her undergraduate degree in Hispanic Studies and English with a minor in Creative Writing from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her PhD in Latin American Literatures and Cultures at Stanford University. She is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and enjoys working with students to develop their creative and critical writing skills across languages.

Jane Fentress

Jane is an educator with experience teaching in independent schools, special education, and higher education. She holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago and a graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

Tim Lengel

Tim teaches United States History and Government at The Haverford School. He received his undergraduate degree from Williams College in History and his graduate degree in Liberal Arts from the University of Pennsylvania.

Tom Trainer
Academic Coach, Humanities, Executive Functioning, College Essay Writing
Tom currently teaches and serves as Grade Level Dean at Cristo Rey Philadelphia HS. He earned his undergraduate degree in History, Political Science and Honors Humanities from Villanova University, where he earned an MA in Political Science. While getting his masters, Tom earned a Fulbright Scholarship to conduct research in Jamaica. He also has also worked as a college counselor, helping students navigate the admissions process.
